New Voices empowers emerging UK artists – especially those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds – by connecting them with European artists who face common challenges.

This dynamic programme fosters collaboration and innovation, enabling artists to work with their European counterparts to develop new ideas and skills and showcase their work through a range of British Council Arts programmes.

New Voices works across three main disciplines:

Music

The programme promotes gender equality and diversity through initiatives such as WeAreEquals and Selector Radio.

Literature and theatre: new writing

New voices showcases emerging UK writers through our annual Literature Seminar Germany, the Hay Festival Segovia, and Dublin Theatre Festival.

Film

New Voices celebrates plurality on screen and brokers connections at film festivals in Poland, and through our region-wide Future Screens Film Lab programme and touring film programmes, such as BAFTA Shorts.
