Our work in Film
We offer international opportunities to UK film professionals, and broker creative relationships between UK filmmakers and their international counterparts.
Working with a network of international film festivals, we bring the best of UK film to international audiences. We also tour programmes of UK film to over 100 countries, including BAFTA-nominated short films and Grierson-nominated documentaries.
We collect information on all new UK films in production in our UK film database, offering an up-to-date snapshot of contemporary UK talent.
We use digital platforms to champion UK moving image, and celebrate the new possibilities of games and creative technology for cultural exchange.
Flare 2026 submissions
Our annual selection of films for Five Films For Freedom is taken from the programme for BFI Flare, the UK’s largest international LGBTQIA+ film event. Submissions to Flare 2026 – and to Five Films For Freedom 2026 – are now open. Submit your short film to be considered for inclusion by 5 December.
