Selector at 25
Selector was born in 2001 as a new radio show from us, here at the British Council, providing a platform for UK music to be heard around the world. It's since grown, evolved and moved with the times and now reaches millions of listeners every week. And if there's any doubt about radio's continuing ability to reach a captive audience, evidence about radio usage tells the story of how it continues to grow into the 21st century.
So now it's been 25 years since the first Selector Radio show hit the air, what better way to celebrate than more excellent music and a host of special shows and interviews?!

Throughout September 2026, we'll bring you special episodes of Selector Radio with extra special guests that look back on the Selector story so far. Expect to hear from hosts past and present as they share how Selector shaped their voyage of musicial discovery.
We're also digging into a treasure trove of Selector Sessions, recorded for Selector over the years, and will share live music recorded by big names that were just getting started. Tune into Selector Radio to hear them each week.
